A prominent leader of the Awami League and a close associate of Sheikh Hasina has made a striking assertion that she will reclaim her position as Prime Minister of Bangladesh. At 76 years old, Hasina sought refuge in India after being removed from power following a student-led uprising. In December, Bangladesh formally requested India to facilitate Hasina’s return. But is her reinstatement as Prime Minister truly on the horizon?

Is a comeback for Sheikh Hasina as Bangladesh’s Prime Minister possible?

A senior Awami League figure and Hasina’s close confidant has made this bold claim.

Hasina, who has served as Bangladesh’s Prime Minister for many years, fled to India after being ousted due to a student-led movement.

In December, Bangladesh officially approached India with a request for Hasina’s return.

This request was communicated through a “note verbale” to the Indian government, as stated by Touhid Hossain, the Foreign Affairs Adviser of Bangladesh’s Interim government.

“We have sent a note verbale to India requesting the return of Sheikh Hasina,” Hossain confirmed.
