Avinash Sable and Jyothi Yarraji took home gold in the men’s 3000m steeplechase and women’s 100m hurdles, respectively, while Jisna Mathew, Rupal Chaudhary, Kunja Rajitha, and Subha Venkatesan earned India’s second relay gold at the Gumi, South Korea, competition.

India won gold at the Asian Athletics Championships on Thursday thanks to outstanding performances by the 4x400m women’s relay team, veteran steeplechase runner Avinash Sable, and the nation’s fastest female hurdler Jyothi Yarraji.

India continued to dominate the third competition day of the continental championship after Jyothi and Sable set the tone. Jisna Mathew, Rupal Chaudhary, Kunja Rajitha, and Subha Venkatesan won the gold medal in the women’s 4x400m relay event with a season-best time of 3:34.18 seconds.

Sri Lanka settled for bronze with 3:36.67 seconds, while Vietnam won silver with 3:34.77 seconds.

This was India’s first gold in the event since 2013 and their tenth overall. After a huge thunderstorm interrupted the competition, India won three gold, two silver, and one bronze medal on Thursday, bringing their total to 14.
