A terror attack in Pahalgam has resulted in the deaths of 26 individuals, primarily tourists, marking the deadliest incident in the region since the 2019 Pulwama attack.

The assault occurred at Baisaran, a location accessible only by foot or pony, where tourists were visiting on Tuesday morning.

The Resistance Front, an offshoot of the banned Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba, has claimed responsibility for the attack, although an official government confirmation is still pending.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated that those responsible for this atrocious act will face justice and will not escape punishment. PM Modi, who returned to India early from his trip to Saudi Arabia, convened an important meeting with National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar at the Delhi airport.

World leaders, including US President Donald Trump, Russian President Vladimir Putin, and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, have condemned the Pahalgam attack and expressed their support for India.
