Following the Vatican’s announcement of Pope Francis’s passing at the age of 88, tributes have flooded in from around the globe, including messages from presidents and individuals from various backgrounds.
The Vatican confirmed the pope’s death on Monday, April 21, 2025, through a video statement. He was the first Latin American leader of the Roman Catholic Church, having served for 12 years.
Cardinal Kevin Ferrell shared the news, stating, “At 7:35 this morning, the Bishop of Rome, Francis, returned to the home of the Father. His entire life was dedicated to the service of the Lord and of his Church.”
His final public address took place on Sunday, April 20, 2025, during which he delivered an Easter message and reiterated his plea for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.
Pope Francis, who suffered from chronic lung disease, was admitted to Gemelli Hospital on February 14, 2025, after his bronchitis condition worsened. He remained there for an extended period before being discharged on March 23, 2025.
