President Murmu Confers Arjuna Awards 2025, Celebrates Excellence in Sports

New Delhi, January 17, 2025 – President Droupadi Murmu presented the prestigious Arjuna
Awards to 32 outstanding athletes at the National Sports Awards ceremony held at Rashtrapati
Bhavan. This annual event honors remarkable achievements in sports and celebrates India’s
rising prominence in the global sporting arena.


This year’s awards prominently recognized para-athletes, with 17 honorees who collectively won
29 medals in international competitions, including seven golds, nine silvers, and thirteen bronzes.
Their exceptional performances reflect India’s commitment to inclusivity in sports.
Key Arjuna Awardees include Jyothi Yarraji (Athletics), Annu Rani (Javelin Throw), Salima
Tete (Hockey), Vantika Agrawal (Chess), and Swapnil Suresh Kusale (Shooting). Para-
athletes like Mona Agarwal and Rubina Francis were also honored for their achievements inpara-shooting.

The ceremony also highlighted India’s top sporting honor, the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna
Award, given to four athletes: Gukesh D (Chess), Harmanpreet Singh (Hockey), Praveen
Kumar (Para-Athletics), and Manu Bhaker (Shooting).

 

President Murmu commended the awardees, praising their dedication and perseverance. “Your
achievements inspire millions and are a testament to India’s growing strength in sports,” she said.
The event underscores the nation’s commitment to recognizing excellence across diverse
disciplines, encouraging athletes to pursue greater heights. This year’s awards, with their focus
on inclusivity and diversity, highlight India’s evolving status as a global sporting powerhouse
