World Heart Day walks at Hitec City, Malakpet and Musheerabad encourage people to move more and leave heart-harming habits behind

Hyderabad, September 29, 2026: CARE Hospitals marked World Heart Day with awareness walks at its Hitec City, Malakpet and Musheerabad hospitals. Doctors, nurses, hospital staff and community members joined the walks to encourage physical activity and remind people to take care of their hearts before symptoms appear.
The walks were part of CARE Hospitals’ ‘Time to Break Up’ campaign, which calls on people to leave behind habits that can increase cardiovascular risk over time, including smoking, unhealthy food, prolonged sitting, physical inactivity, poor sleep, unmanaged stress and skipping health check-ups.
At Hitec City, participants completed a 2 KM awareness walk. At Malakpet, the heart health walkathon brought together hospital teams and the local community. The Musheerabad walk started at CARE Hospitals, proceeded to Gandhi Hospital and returned to CARE Hospitals.
Participants across the three walks included Dr Gulla Surya Prakash, Regional Director – Cardiology and Senior Cardiologist, CARE Hospitals; Dr Krishna Mohan, Clinical Director & Senior Interventional Cardiologist, CARE Hospitals, Hitec City; Dr Naveen Kumar, Senior Cardiologist, CARE Hospitals, Malakpet; Dr Bhavani Prasad, Medical Superintendent, CARE Hospitals, Hitec City; Mr Praveen Kumar Edla, HCOO, CARE Hospitals, Malakpet; Dr Sudhir Gandrakota, CTVS, CARE Hospitals, Malakpet; Dr Rajendra Vajrapu, HOD – Critical Care, CARE Hospitals, Malakpet; and Dr Bharathi Jetti, HCOO, CARE Hospitals, Musheerabad, along with other doctors, nurses, hospital staff and community members. Dr Naveen Kumar led the Malakpet walk, while Dr Gulla Surya Prakash led the Musheerabad walk.
“Heart disease often develops silently over many years. What we eat, how much we move, whether we smoke and whether we keep track of our blood pressure, blood sugar and cholesterol all influence our heart health,” said Dr Gulla Surya Prakash. “People should not wait for chest pain or another warning sign to start thinking about their heart. Identify one habit that is hurting it and start changing it today.”
Dr Krishna Mohan said, “Heart disease may not always give an obvious warning in its early stages. High blood pressure, diabetes and high cholesterol can remain unnoticed for years. Don’t wait for your heart to give you a warning. Walk regularly, stay away from tobacco, pay attention to your food and sleep, and know your health numbers. Small changes, sustained over time, can make a meaningful difference.”
“We should not wait for symptoms before taking heart health seriously,” said Dr Naveen Kumar. “You do not have to change everything overnight. Start with one positive step, whether it is walking regularly, eating healthier, sleeping better or giving up tobacco, and make it part of your daily life.”
Through the ‘Time to Break Up’ campaign, CARE Hospitals is encouraging people to make a personal commitment to their heart: move more, avoid tobacco, make healthier food choices, manage stress, get adequate sleep, check their blood pressure, blood sugar and cholesterol, and seek timely medical advice when needed.
