Influencers like Ranveer Allahbadia, Samay Raina, and Apoorva Mukhija, the creators behind India’s Got Latent, have stirred controversy with their latest dark comedy trend. While these creators have gained immense popularity, especially among Gen Z, their content often crosses the line from edgy humor to vulgarity, raising questions about the responsibility that comeswith their influence.

In one notorious episode, Ranveer Allahbadia asked a contestant a highly inappropriate question, with the panelists laughing along. This shock humor, focused on taboos rather than genuine comedy, has become a recurring theme. Though the show caters largely to Gen Z audiences, it often presents a troubling message: that disrespect and crudeness are acceptable for the sake of humor. This highlights the thin line between freedom of speech and responsible expression in the digital age.

While comedy has always pushed boundaries, this latest trend fails to respect basic societal norms, cluttering young minds with confusion about what’s truly acceptable. The reliance on shock value over substance has garnered significant backlash, with an FIR filed against India’s Got Latent for its inappropriate content. Even Prime Minister Narendra Modi acknowledged the growing influence of digital creators when he presented awards to them, recognizing their impact on young audiences.

However, with great influence comes great responsibility. Comedy should challenge ideas, not shock or offend for views. As the digital landscape evolves, creators must realize that balancing freedom of expression with respect for norms is crucial. If they continue down this path, they risk alienating their audiences and contributing to the decline of meaningful, responsible content.
